Years ago, I was able to build my portfolio by joining the Illustration Friday community and submitting my illustrations. The last time I submitted an artwork for IF was November 2011! I can’t believe it’s been almost 3 years! It’s a really fun way to challenge yourself and interact with fellow illustrators.

I’m starting a series of posts to show you my random sketches! Daily sketching (project sketches not included!) is really important for artists to continue improving and developing their skills. I am not able to do it every single day though, but I try to sketch as much as I can.
Sometimes it’s nice to challenge yourself and pick random themes online. I discovered 1000thingstodraw.com and they really have interesting ideas to draw.

For the “Mind Matters” article, I had to illustrate a left and right brain diagram. I originally drew the girl with her brain showing, which might have grossed out the Total Girl staff (I totally understand!) haha. I had to revise it and just drew a normal head (with the top of the head intact). I still love the one with the brain showing, though! I enjoyed doing it and it took me a while to figure out how to draw the brain.
