When I submitted this illustration, the Art Director told me that this made them laugh! Ha! Mission accomplished! This Totally Embarrassing story is from the April 2013 issue of Total Girl Philippines.
I just love playing with the characters’ expressions for the Totally Embarrassing illustrations! The difficult part of creating the characters is building up the face; and one of my favorite things when it comes to coloring is adding the details of the hair. Here’s the blush of the month story + the illustration for this month’s Total Girl Philippines.
I was assigned an article to illustrate: “Beat the Insecurity Monster”.
I rarely draw animals or even mythical creatures so I found this page illustration quite challenging to do. I’m very happy though with how the dragon turned out. I have to say, this one belongs to my favorite Total Girl illustrations especially because it’s different from the usual scenes I’m doing.
I got a bit carried away with the scene and gave the main character quite some action. Unfortunately, as much as I love this pose and expression, the art director found that it looks violent so I had to revise it.
Perhaps this just really suits the article better (with the tamed expression and pose). It still turned out great so I’m happy with this.
Here are two of my illustrations from last month’s Total Girl Philippines!
I started 2013 with two editorial illustrations for Total Girl Philippines.
This Totally Embarrassing illustration was cropped to give more space for the text. Here’s the original image with a third character towards the left.
This was my last editorial illustration for Total Girl Philippines for the year 2012!
Here’s another fun Totally Embarrassing illustration for Total Girl magazine. I just love how the colors turned out for this one.
Here’s my second illustration for Totally Embarrassing! This is one of the favorite sections of tweens when reading the Total Girl magazine so I am really happy that my illustrations are part of it.
