Here Comes the Dragon

I just love playing with the characters’ expressions for the Totally Embarrassing illustrations! The difficult part of creating the characters is building up the face; and one of my favorite things when it comes to coloring is adding the details of the hair. Here’s the blush of the month story + the illustration for this month’s Total Girl Philippines.

I was assigned an article to illustrate: “Beat the Insecurity Monster”.

I rarely draw animals or even mythical creatures so I found this page illustration quite challenging to do. I’m very happy though with how the dragon turned out. I have to say, this one belongs to my favorite Total Girl illustrations especially because it’s different from the usual scenes I’m doing.

I got a bit carried away with the scene and gave the main character quite some action. Unfortunately, as much as I love this pose and expression, the art director found that it looks violent so I had to revise it.

Perhaps this just really suits the article better (with the tamed expression and pose). It still turned out great so I’m happy with this.
